I’m thrilled to share an incredible milestone with you all: I’ve conquered a 10km trail running challenge, something that seemed utterly impossible just a few months ago. And not only that, I did it with a smile on my face and zero knee pain – something that was once unthinkable for me.
As a kid, running was my nemesis. Every time I hit the pavement, my knees would scream in protest, leaving me hobbling for days. However, I never had any issues with Cycling (maybe that’s why I felt in love with that sport so easily). But everything changed last year when I borrowed from my aunt her Hokka shoes.
It was like finding the perfect match: thick soles and dirt trails … It was like finding the gravel of running.
Perfect for building endurance
With Chicago’s harsh winter, my bike remained untouched, affecting my fitness and endurance. To regain my form, I knew I needed a cycling complement that would get me back in shape quickly and effectively.
Benefits of trail running for cyclists:
- It’s a demanding cardio workout that engages the entire body
- Short-sessions count
- Allows you to enjoy the outdoors and escape work stress.
And then, with no reason, I ended up accepting the challenge of running 10km in a month. Initially, it seemed insane, as my max was a measly 4km with plenty of suffering. But I accepted.
I can achieve anything I set my mind to, with discipline and effort.
The last 6.5km of my 10km challenge were the toughest. Starting is always hard, the whole body feels heavy. But before I knew it, I was at 4.5km. A quick stop to adjust my gear, shed layers, and replenish fluids. But it was from 6.5km onwards that things started to get real. Muscle aches and fatigue took their toll, but I refused to give up. Instead, I thought, “This can be fixed with training.
“This challenge has taught me so much about myself. I’ve discovered that I’m stronger and more resilient than I thought. I’ve learned to trust my body and overcome my fears. And above all, I’ve found the perfect complement to my cycling workouts.
I’m eager to set new challenges and continue racking up miles on the trails. And of course, I can’t wait to get back on my bike!
This is just the beginning of my trail running adventure. I’m sure it will bring many incredible experiences and help me reach new goals.
What about you? Are you ready to give trail running a try? I promise you won’t regret it!
